Overview
- Carmen de la Punta S.A. (ETCAPSA) suspended operations on the Callao–Ate route during the holiday rush after receiving payment demands backed by images of firearms.
- Messages attributed to “Los Malditos de la avenida Venezuela” ordered a S/10,000 “registration” and S/10,000 each month, warning of attacks on drivers if unpaid.
- Most drivers refused to depart out of fear; only three or four units ventured out in recent days as workers said daily earnings of S/100–S/200 do not justify the risk.
- Buses remained parked at the company’s Santa Anita base while management pressed the National Police for stronger protection against rising extortion of public transport.
- The PNP’s extortion unit said it is coordinating a response and asked the operators to file a formal complaint, urging them to trust the investigation.
