Lima Bus Drivers Call 48-Hour Strike After Santa Catalina Shooting and Extortion Threat

Police are investigating an extortion note linked to “Los Injertos” following the shooting of a Santa Catalina driver in San Juan de Lurigancho.

Overview

  • Marco Antonio Huamán Cosco, a Santa Catalina Line C driver, was shot while refueling in San Juan de Lurigancho and remains stable at Hospital de Canto Grande.
  • Assailants left a message signed by “Los Injertos de San Juan de Lurigancho” that warned, “O se comunican o a la siguiente les dejo un muerto.”
  • Santa Catalina suspended service and workers gathered in Caja de Agua, announcing a march toward Avenida Abancay to demand security guarantees.
  • The Asociación Nacional de Conductores del Perú called a 48-hour national strike for Sept. 27–28 to press for concrete protection measures.
  • Police at the Comisaría de Canto Grande opened an investigation, as staff say this is the fifth attack on the company in 2025 and drivers report daily “cupos” payments to multiple gangs.
