Lima and Callao Bus Operators Stage 24-Hour Shutdown After Driver Killing

Authorities ordered remote schooling to limit disruption from the stoppage.

  • ATU confirmed full operation of trunk services with special hours: Metropolitano and corridors from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Metro Line 1 from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and Line 2 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., supported by police deployments at major stops.
  • The Education Ministry directed public schools in Lima and Callao to hold classes remotely, and several universities suspended in-person sessions for the day.
  • The Labor Ministry granted a two-hour arrival tolerance and urged telework, while Interior Minister Carlos Malaver said investigators have not established extortion as the motive.
