Ligier Secures Three Top Teams for New LMP2 JS P228

Customer commitments to the JS P228 create a two-supplier LMP2 field under the 2028 rules.

Overview

  • Ligier confirmed on Wednesday that Algarve Pro Racing, Inter Europol Competition and Panis Racing have chosen the JS P228 for the 2028 LMP2 cycle, giving the French maker its first high-profile customer line-up for the new ruleset.
  • The new LMP2 cars will debut in the 2028 European Le Mans Series and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, appear in the 2028–29 Asian Le Mans Series, and become eligible in IMSA from 2029.
  • Team leaders said they backed Ligier because of the company’s resources, leadership and clear ambition to fight for championships and Le Mans wins, and all three squads have prior history with Ligier’s earlier JS P217 chassis.
  • Panis Racing will change service provider and run the Ligier in partnership with VPS Racing, a move that replaces TDS Racing and reflects wider team-level reorganizations tied to the new generation.
  • The confirmations finalise a supplier split between Ligier and ORECA that ends years of de facto Oreca one-make dominance and sets up a genuine multi-chassis battle that could reshape team operations, supplier roles and competition at Le Mans.
