Overview

• Three separate lightning strikes hit farm workers in Bela, Pipri and Kummari Tanda villages in Telangana’s Adilabad district on June 12.
• Two women were killed instantly in Bela village, four farmers died at Pipri when a makeshift hut collapsed and three people were injured at Kummari Tanda.
• All five injured victims were treated at RIMS Hospital in Adilabad, with two patients still in critical condition.
• Most victims were daily wage labourers with limited shelter during sudden downpours accompanying severe thunderstorms.
• Following warnings from the India Meteorological Department, local authorities have intensified lightning safety campaigns for field workers.
