Overview

• Fire crews arrived shortly before 7 p.m. Monday to the 16300 block of West Caraway Court in Lockport and found an attic fire in a two-story home.
• Officials determined the fire likely resulted from a lightning strike during passing storms in the area.
• The incident was elevated to a full still alarm, bringing in assistance from East Joliet, Homer, Lemont, New Lenox, Northwest Homer, Orland Park, Plainfield and Romeoville.
• Firefighters shifted to defensive operations after the roof became fully involved, and the structure was later deemed uninhabitable due to fire and water damage.
• The occupants evacuated safely with no injuries reported, and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
