Lightning-Started Crosby Fire Grows to 260 Acres, 45% Contained in Minnesota Park

Crews are preparing a hose lay on the east side to cool lingering hot spots.

Overview

  • Northwest winds on Friday drove about 50 acres of new growth on the fire.
  • The blaze is burning on a remote ridge in George H. Crosby Manitou State Park a couple miles inland from Lake Superior and Highway 61.
  • Firefighters are building handlines on the west and east perimeters as water‑scooping aircraft and a helicopter drop water to cool active areas.
  • A hose lay is planned on the east flank to reach water and cool smoldering stumps and downed logs.
  • A section of the Superior Hiking Trail is closed between Caribou Falls State Wayside and Lake County Road 7, the park remains open, and officials warn that any drone use would halt firefighting aircraft.
