Overview
- The sculpture, normally housed at the Basilica in Mexico City, was revealed Wednesday night after a 7 p.m. Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines.
- It will remain at the shrine through Sept. 30 before moving to St. Gall Parish Oct. 1–14 and Mother of the Americas Parish Oct. 15–28.
- Organizers say the life-size figure and digital reproductions were blessed by Monsignor Efraín Hernández Díaz of the basilica in Mexico City.
- Admission is free with advance online registration, and the program features original music plus narrated reflections in English and Spanish.
- More than 4,000 people had registered by Wednesday, with the shrine expecting over 2,500 for the unveiling, and the tour continues next to international stops en route to the 2031 jubilee.
