Lieutenant General V Sreehari Assumes Command of Dakshin Bharat Area

A decorated Para Regiment veteran assumes command to oversee operations across five southern states, including the union territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep.

Overview

  • Lt Gen V Sreehari took over as General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area on July 31, 2025, placing him in charge of operations across peninsular India and the union territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
  • His instructional tenure includes positions at the Junior Leaders Wing in Belgaum and as directing staff at the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington.
  • Commissioned into the 16 Sikh Light Infantry in 1987 and converted to the Para Regiment in 1992, he has served in northern, eastern and southern theatres as well as a UN mission abroad.
  • He commanded a Para Special Forces battalion in Operation Rakshak, the Siachen Glacier base camp, an infantry brigade in a strike corps and a mountain division in India’s northeast.
  • Sreehari holds master’s degrees in defence studies and management plus an MPhil, and his decorated career includes the Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal, Ati Visisht Seva Medal and multiple commendation cards.
