Liechtenstein Police Probe Deaths of Four Family Members Found in Vaduz and Along the Rhine

Autopsies are in progress to determine how the four relatives died.

Overview

  • Passersby reported a body near the Alte Rheinbrücke around 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 24, identified by Swiss police as a 41-year-old Liechtensteiner.
  • Officers checking his residence later found three more victims in a Vaduz apartment: his 73-year-old father, 68-year-old mother and 45-year-old sister.
  • Authorities have not determined the causes of death and say forensic examinations are ongoing.
  • Swiss and Liechtenstein police are conducting a coordinated investigation, and police say they do not currently believe a perpetrator is at large.
  • The 41-year-old had been suspended from his municipal job in Triesen on Dec. 18 over 71,000 CHF in missing funds, and unconfirmed media speculation about a murder–suicide has not been endorsed by officials.
