Lidl to Open 19 UK Stores in Eight Weeks, Creating Up to 640 Jobs

The discounter says the push builds on strong Christmas trading to reinforce market-share momentum.

Overview

  • Openings will roll out roughly every other day over the next two months.
  • The locations span the country, including Calne and Brough, with three London sites at Stamford Hill, Walworth Road and Sutton High Street.
  • Lidl will invest about £40–£43 million to refurbish more than 70 existing branches with new tills and larger freezers.
  • Upgrades include chillers using natural refrigerants and intelligent lighting systems designed to cut electricity consumption.
  • The programme follows the 1,000th UK store milestone in 2025 and a reported 10% Christmas sales rise, with a target of around 40 new sites by 28 February.
