Overview

  • From August 4, 2025, Lidl will let customers manage bottle-deposit vouchers entirely in the Lidl Plus app by scanning QR codes at return machines.
  • Scan-based credits can be applied automatically at checkout or held in the app for later use, remain valid for three years and expire if the Lidl Plus app is deleted.
  • Digital vouchers can only be redeemed in the same store where the bottles were returned, with a cap of ten coupons per QR code.
  • Traditional paper vouchers will remain available in all stores for customers without the app or who opt out of the digital option.
  • Lidl is deploying in-store signage and app updates ahead of the nationwide launch while the Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband challenges the app’s data-collection and transparency practices in court.
