Overview

  • The three new 30-minute works – La vergonya, la panerola i El Corte Inglés; Ikaria; and Estètica i massacre – were created by emerging composer-librettist teams Martínez/Cedó, Alsina/Pazos and Prat/Gurt.
  • Under Àlex Ollé’s musical leadership, the initiative united the Gran Teatre del Liceu with Barcelona City Council, design schools and the Institut del Teatre to co-produce each micro-opera.
  • Critics highlighted the emotional depth of Martínez’s score in La vergonya, the tragicomic bite of Prat’s Estètica i massacre and the avant-garde electronics and amplified vocals of Ikaria.
  • Affordable tickets priced between 10 and 20 euros sold out within days, demonstrating strong public demand for contemporary opera.
  • Festival organizers and Liceu leadership praise Òh!pera as a vital incubator for future talent ahead of the theatre’s 2025–26 season under Josep Pons.
