Overview
- Yorlan Rafael Reyes, who fled custody while receiving medical care on July 18, was taken into U.S. Marshals custody in the Seattle area on August 5 after a multiagency investigation developed a phone lead.
- Investigators traced Reyes from the Kingwood hospital to Cleveland, Texas, and then to the Seattle area where they say he worked construction while hiding.
- Authorities say Reyes sent threatening messages to multiple women in Texas during his time on the run, including messages that referenced juvenile daughters, and prosecutors are reviewing those allegations for additional charges.
- An internal Liberty County review found violations in how Reyes was transported and supervised at the hospital, resulting in the firing of a correctional officer for policy breaches though no criminal finding was made against that officer.
- Reyes was originally jailed on a state jail felony for unlawful disclosure or promotion of intimate visual material and now faces an added escape charge while officials evaluate possible charges for any people who assisted him and arrangements are made to return him to Texas.
