Overview

• Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation after an 87-year-old was found dead at a home on Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, at about 01:00 on Sunday, 24 August.
• A post-mortem on Monday, 25 August determined the cause of death as compression of the neck.
• Vasile Iosebica, 47, of Wellmeadow Road, was arrested on suspicion of murder and charged on Tuesday, 26 August.
• Police say the victim and Iosebica were known to each other, and the deceased has not yet been publicly named.
• Next-of-kin are being supported by specially trained officers, and detectives are not currently appealing for information.
