Overview
- LEVEL, part of IAG, has started direct flights between Lima and Barcelona using Airbus A330‑200 aircraft with three weekly rotations and more than 4,000 seats offered per month in each direction.
- The carrier named Servicios Aeroportuarios Andinos (SAASA) as its strategic ramp, cargo and FBO partner at Jorge Chávez, with SAASA citing dedicated facilities of over 6,000 m² in the new terminal and 500 m² in the older terminal for cargo operations.
- Peru’s Transport and Communications Ministry presented LEVEL’s entry as evidence the country’s open‑skies agreements are working and highlighted that Jorge Chávez now links Peru to dozens of international destinations served by many airlines.
- Officials and industry sources say the new service should shorten travel times for tourists and business travelers between Spain and Peru and increase competition on transatlantic routes to Lima.
- Observers view the launch as part of a wider trend this year of carriers adding capacity to Lima — examples include announced frequency increases from Air France and Air Transat and network moves by Latam, United, Boliviana de Aviación, Plus Ultra and Arajet — which could raise passenger flows and pressure local airport services.
