Levaya for Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Kalmanson Begins, Passes 770 Today

The New Haven rosh yeshiva and noted scholar died on the first night of Rosh Hashanah after a visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel.

  • The funeral began Motzoei Rosh Hashana in New Haven and will pass 770 Eastern Parkway at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, with burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
  • Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Kalmanson was 70 and passed away suddenly on the first night of Rosh Hashana 5786.
  • He founded Yeshivas Beis Dovid Shlomo in New Haven in 5738 with the Rebbe’s blessing and led it as it grew into a mesivta and zal.
  • He was widely respected for his breadth in nigleh and Chassidus, authored seforim on Gemara, and delivered well-regarded shiurim at the Global Yarchei Kallah.
  • He is survived by his wife, Hindy, their children and grandchildren, and siblings across the U.S., France, the Netherlands, and Israel, as the community gathered at the yeshiva to mourn.
