Overview

• Producers Michael P. Kruke and Ram Narasimhan are leading the planned Broadway transfer.
• The musical premiered at the Phoenix Theater Company on Aug. 8, extended to Sept. 7, and became the theater’s highest-grossing and best-attended premiere.
• Conceived and written by Tony Award winner Jack Viertel, the show was directed and choreographed by Sara Edwards with music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Sonny Paladino.
• Joy Machine Records released an August concept album produced by Paladino featuring John Edwards, J. Harrison Ghee, Lauren Patten, Jonny Rosch, Rashidra Scott, Alysha Umphress, and a guest appearance by the Rebirth Brass Band.
• Set in New Orleans, the piece blends songs tied to artists such as Bessie Smith, Dr. John, The Meters, Harry Connick Jr., Rebirth Brass Band and Randy Newman, with the Broadway theater and casting still to be announced.
