Overview

  • The 25-year ‘Zoo der Zukunft’ masterplan now focuses on three remaining projects: the terrarium renovation, ‘Feuerland’ and ‘Asiatische Inselwelten’.
  • The historic terrarium rebuild retains key architectural elements and is on track to welcome visitors before the 2025 autumn school break.
  • Construction on ‘Feuerland’ is advancing for its 2026 debut with a 140-metre underwater tunnel showcasing seals, penguins and other marine species.
  • Work on ‘Asiatische Inselwelten’ began in early 2025 and will introduce Southeast Asian aviaries and a Halong Bay–inspired habitat by 2028.
  • About €250 million has been invested so far, with roughly 30 percent funded by the city of Leipzig and the remainder covered by Zoo Leipzig GmbH.
