Overview
- Leinster and the IRFU officially announced on Tuesday that Noel McNamara will succeed Leo Cullen and take up the head-coach role on 1 July 2027 after the 2026/27 season ends.
- McNamara will remain as attack coach at Union Bordeaux-Bègles for the rest of the current season and has publicly committed to finishing that work before moving to Leinster.
- He returns with a record of recent success, having helped Bordeaux win back-to-back European Champions Cup titles and previously served at Leinster as academy manager and Leinster 'A' head coach.
- Jacques Nienaber would report to McNamara under the new structure but his contract includes a reported six-month break clause that could allow an earlier, yet unconfirmed, exit and affect wider coaching plans.
- Leinster CEO Shane Nolan and IRFU performance director David Humphreys endorsed the hire as fitting Leinster’s player-development pathway, and players who worked with McNamara described the move as a continuity-focused but fresh coaching change.
