Leicester Man Sentenced to Life for Brutal Murder of Partner

Raj Sidpara, 50, attacked Tarnjeet Riaz in a sustained assault, leaving her with fatal injuries before going to bed and calling emergency services the next day.

Raj Sidpara was convicted of murdering Tarnjeet Riaz, 44, after a violent attack in his Leicester home on May 6, 2024, and sentenced to life with a minimum of 21 years in prison.
The court heard that Sidpara punched, kicked, and stamped on Riaz, causing 64 injuries, including brain trauma and 20 rib fractures, before leaving her to die overnight.
Sidpara, who had a history of domestic violence and 24 prior convictions, initially claimed Riaz's injuries were due to a fall while intoxicated.
Judge William Harbage described the attack as 'savage and merciless' and noted Sidpara's conspicuous lack of remorse throughout the trial.
Riaz's family remembered her as the 'soul' of their family and expressed anguish over not knowing the extent of the abuse she suffered.
