LEGO Releases Official X‑Files Ideas Set

A decade of fan submissions culminating in a 2025 '90s Nostalgia contest victory led LEGO to approve a collector-focused modular model.

Overview

  • The LEGO Ideas The X‑Files (21369) set went on general sale Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, after LEGO Insiders early access and retails for $199.99 as a 1,478-piece model recommended for ages 18 and up with a free Scully's Lab gift available through Aug. 10 while supplies last.
  • Designer Brent “Wetwired” Waller shepherded the project through a long path of submissions and rejections that began in 2014, saw another rejection after a 2019 resubmission, and finally won LEGO Ideas’ 2025 ’90s Nostalgia contest to secure production.
  • The modular two-level build pairs Mulder’s cluttered FBI office below with a wooded UFO abduction scene above, and the set includes eight minifigures: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Walter Skinner, Mr. X, Alex Krycek, Carl Busch (the Cigarette Smoking Man on the box), a gray alien and the Flukeman.
  • LEGO redesigned Waller’s original proposal for manufacture by compressing the model to about two-thirds scale and adding easy separation between the office and forest sections so both can be displayed together or apart.
  • The set highlights how fan-driven Ideas projects and a renewed willingness to license ’90s‑era shows are feeding adult collector products and could encourage more mature-themed fan designs, with some retailers noting backorder shipping windows into late August.
