Legendary American speedskater, 1964 Olympic champion Terry McDermott dies at 82

McDermott was the only American to win gold at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics, surprising observers by beating the Soviet champion in the 500 meters.
McDermott appeared alongside the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show the same night as their debut American television performance.
McDermott won silver in the 500 meters at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics and competed in three Olympics over his career.
