Leeds Crown Court Sentences Twice-Deported Albanian to 14 Months for Illegal UK Return

Prosecutors say he never appealed the 2020 deportation order that barred his return.

Overview

  • He admitted at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 4 September to re-entering the UK in November 2024 in breach of the 2020 order.
  • The CPS produced documents signed by Emirjon Gjuta showing he did not object to deportation or lodge an appeal, while his side claimed he lacked an interpreter and misunderstood the order.
  • He was arrested in Leeds in September 2025, and authorities say it is still unclear how he re-entered the country the previous year.
  • He was first deported in August 2020 after drug and identity-document convictions in 2019, then deported again in March 2023 following a 2022 arrest for breaching the order and possessing another person’s ID.
  • CPS official Nick Smith said prosecutors will continue working with the Home Office and police to pursue cases against people with no right to be in the UK.
