Overview
- A partnership announced on Sep. 24 lets eligible Ledger device owners sign xStocks transactions and complete funding and withdrawals using Ledger’s Device Management Kit and on‑device Clear Signing while keeping private keys offline.
- Payward’s xStocks are blockchain tokens issued 1:1 against tracker certificates from Backed Assets (JE) Limited that give price exposure to listed shares but generally do not convey voting rights, dividend claims, or full legal shareholder status and have limited redeemability.
- Payward said xStocks have exceeded $42 billion in cumulative transaction volume as the platform expanded listings to U.S. and international equities, added the top 100 London stocks on Sept. 1, and introduced vault products earlier in September.
- The integration will initially cover Payward’s xStocks only, is not available to U.S. persons because the tokens are not registered under the U.S. Securities Act, and the companies gave no firm universal rollout dates while Ledger says it is in talks with other tokenizers.
- The move ties self‑custody security to on‑wallet trading and payment rails in Europe and the U.K., but it also raises practical questions about liquidity, pricing, custody limits and pending regulatory reviews of wider listings such as LSE 24 and Nasdaq token projects.
