Overview
- Ledger unveiled the Atom on Thursday, October 15, 2026, opened reservations with a refundable $100 deposit for an $849 Founder’s Edition, and said general availability will begin in summer 2027.
- The company has confirmed at least one device sold through resellers was modified with an unauthorized hardware implant that read 24‑word recovery phrases and sent them out over an eSIM, and it has paused some sales in Southeast Asia and at retail partners.
- Ledger says Atom runs Android alongside Ledger OS on a dedicated secure element, limits eSIM to data-only use, and adds physical anti-tamper measures such as a protective enclosure, display and back-cover detection, and tamper-evident packaging.
- The device is built for on-device AI agents through a partnership with OpenClaw and requires a physical approval on the Atom to complete transactions, and reporting says it will include Solana Mobile Stack features such as Seed Vault for hardware-backed Solana custody.
- The Atom marks a shift from minimal-purpose signers to a phone-like platform that trades added usability for a larger software attack surface, so users and regulators will watch how Ledger proves unit integrity, tightens reseller controls, and addresses reported—but unconfirmed—losses of roughly $86 million.
