Leader ‘M4’ Among 9 Detained in CJNG-Linked Extortion Cell in State of Mexico

The arrests follow a joint federal–state operation under Mexico’s anti-extortion campaign.

Overview

  • In an operation on the Progreso–Villa del Carbón road in Nicolás Romero, authorities first detained six suspects who had threatened a public-transport driver for protection payments.
  • Investigators later arrested Erick “N,” alias “M4,” identified as the cell’s leader after succeeding David “N,” alias “El Davis,” who was captured in 2021 and is serving a homicide sentence.
  • Arturo “N,” who had recently begun social service at the State Prosecutor’s Office, is accused of feeding the group internal information and was apprehended on a homicide warrant alongside Eduardo “N,” alias “El Diamante.”
  • Several detainees were linked to two extortion cases, and Jhoan “N” and Brandon Ricardo “N” face arrest orders for a kidnapping that resulted in the death of a transport operator in Nicolás Romero.
  • All nine were taken to the Tlalnepantla penitentiary and placed at a judge’s disposal, with the operation carried out by FGE Edomex, SSPC, SEDENA, the National Guard and the State Security Secretariat, and with authorities describing the cell as tied to the CJNG.
