Overview
- The blaze broke out at 3:30 AM on July 5 on the massif near Le Rove, roughly 15 km north-west of Marseille.
- By 8 AM the fire had swept through about 100 hectares of scrubland and forest, marking the department’s first major wildfire of the season.
- Authorities evacuated 150 people to the port of La Vesse as a precautionary safety measure.
- Around 350 firefighters, supported by a water-bombing helicopter and other aerial resources, battled the flames.
- Favourable conditions have allowed crews to largely contain the fire and they are closely monitoring remaining hotspots to prevent any reignition.
