LAX Begins Terminal 5 Closure With Airline Moves and New MSC South Gates

The project is part of a $30 billion program slated to finish before the 2028 Olympics.

Overview

  • JetBlue now operates from Terminal 1, with Spirit shifting to Terminal 2 on Oct. 22 and American moving to Terminal 4 on Oct. 28.
  • Terminal 5’s final day of operation is Oct. 28, after which demolition will clear the way for a rebuilt facility.
  • The Midfield Satellite Concourse South opened Oct. 21, adding eight gates and more than 150,000 square feet to help offset lost capacity.
  • Airport officials report the concourse was delivered on time and on budget using offsite construction methods planned for the Terminal 5 rebuild.
  • LAWA says it is coordinating with airlines to limit disruption, and travelers should confirm terminal assignments and allow extra time for longer walks.
