Laughing and Letting Loose Top Signs of Being ‘Young at Heart,’ UK Survey Finds

A Cheestrings-commissioned OnePoll survey for the Fun Om Nom Nom campaign links playful habits with wellbeing and family bonds.

Overview

  • Polling of 2,000 UK adults ranked not taking yourself too seriously, laughing easily and dancing without worry as the clearest markers of youthful spirit.
  • Other top indicators included spontaneity, playing on swings, enjoying funfairs, celebrating birthdays enthusiastically, singing along, watching children’s TV and wearing bright colours.
  • Eight in ten respondents said staying connected to their inner child is crucial, citing benefits for mood, stress reduction and overall mental health.
  • Seventy percent of parents credited their children with rekindling playfulness, with shared activities such as beach trips (37%), big birthday celebrations (32%) and cooking together (29%) commonly cited.
  • Most respondents engage in youthful behaviours regularly, with 65% doing so at least weekly and one in five daily, and the campaign features guidance from psychologist Jo Hemmings and a family dance by JLS star Aston Merrygold.
