Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics Elected Country's President

Edgars Rinkevics, Latvia's Foreign Minister since 2011, has been elected the nation's new president.
Rinkevics is Latvia's first openly gay head of state and a staunch supporter of Ukraine against Russian aggression.
The presidency in Latvia is largely ceremonial, with real power lying in the prime minister's office.
Rinkevics won 52 of 87 votes and has pushed a pro-Western, pro-EU agenda as foreign minister.
Rinkevics will represent Latvia at July's NATO summit in Vilnius.
