Overview
- Funeral services were held Oct. 7 at the Conference Center on Temple Square in Salt Lake City for President Russell M. Nelson, who died Sept. 27.
- President Dallin H. Oaks concluded the service, joined by Elders Jeffrey R. Holland and Henry B. Eyring, Relief Society President Camille N. Johnson, and two of President Nelson’s children, Laurie N. Marsh and Russell M. Nelson Jr.
- President Oaks called Nelson “my best friend and most effective teacher,” recalling how the mantle in 2018 revealed a decisive leader and a loving missionary who cherished the Book of Mormon.
- Elder Eyring testified of temple ordinances as a source of hope and reunion, Elder Holland affirmed Nelson’s calling as prophet, revelator and seer, and President Johnson underscored his prophetic invitations to access God’s power through covenants.
- Family remembrances portrayed a joyful father devoted to God and kin, with a posterity exceeding 300 and a tireless ministry that sought to recognize each person individually.
