Latter-day Saint Church Sets Jan. 24, 2026 Groundbreaking for Jacksonville Florida Temple

The Church simultaneously identified sites in Idaho plus Nigeria, signaling the next phase of its global temple expansion.

Overview

  • Elder Massimo De Feo will preside over the Jacksonville ceremony, which the Church says will be by invitation only.
  • Plans call for a single-story temple of about 29,000 square feet on a 6.6-acre site at 3323 Loretto Road in Jacksonville.
  • The event is slated to be the first temple groundbreaking of 2026, and the Jacksonville temple will be Florida’s fifth house of the Lord.
  • Florida has nearly 180,000 members in about 280 congregations, with temples operating in Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee, Orlando under renovation, and Tampa under construction.
  • In the same release, the Church named a 10.91-acre site at Hanley Avenue and Coeur Terre Boulevard for the Coeur d’Alene Idaho Temple (about 29,630 square feet with a meetinghouse and ancillary building) and a 7-acre site on Atekong Drive for the Calabar Nigeria Temple (about 26,000 square feet with patron housing, arrival facilities, and a meetinghouse).
