Latin America and Spain Finalize 2026 Holiday Calendars, Add Long-Weekend Dates

Authorities detailed tourism-focused non-working days, clarifying coverage by sector and the pay rules when work is required.

Overview

  • Argentina’s official 2026 calendar lists 16 national holidays and three tourism-purpose non-working days set for Monday 23 March, Friday 10 July and Monday 7 December under Law 27.399 and Decree 614/2025.
  • Peru declared Friday 2 January 2026 a non-working day for the public sector by Supreme Decree No. 042, with hours to be compensated; private employers may opt in by agreement.
  • Mexico’s Federal Labor Law confirms the 2026 mandatory rest days, including the first Monday of February, the third Monday of March and the third Monday of November to create long weekends.
  • Workers in Mexico who labor on an official rest day are entitled to triple pay under Article 75 of the LFT, and banks are closed on 1 January per CNBV and DOF notices, with ATMs and digital services available.
  • Spain’s BOE-published calendar for the Balearic Islands sets 12 official holidays for 2026 in Mallorca, yielding five long weekends.
