Late‑June Heatwave Fuels Multiple Wildfires Across Germany

The Deutscher Wetterdienst has raised wildfire danger to very high and highest levels, signaling elevated risk for new outbreaks over the coming weekend.

Overview

  • The DWD placed parts of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern, Saxony and Saxony‑Anhalt on very high to highest wildfire alert, increasing the probability of further fires this weekend.
  • Fires that broke out on Saturday have left crews either fighting flames or conducting rest‑extinguishing work in several regions, with authorities reporting multiple separate field and forest blazes.
  • Local incidents include a field fire in Klein Woltersdorf that spread into forest and affected more than 30 hectares, a forest blaze near Pfreimd that burned about 8,000 square metres and a 2,400 m² harvest fire in Gemeinde Alpen.
  • Emergency services deployed roughly 200 personnel, a police helicopter for water drops, drones, thermal imaging and extra tankers to secure water supplies and to monitor and contain hotspots.
  • Daytime temperatures near 40°C and prolonged dryness have strained rural resources and raise the risk of new outbreaks, though forecasts point to a lower danger level at the start of next week.
