Late-Season Heat Grips Spain as Storm Chances Rise in Central Argentina

AEMET attributes Spain’s surge to a stable warm air mass with 40 °C peaks and hot nights, while Argentina’s SMN highlights midweek thunderstorm risk in Córdoba and Santa Fe.

Overview

  • Spain’s official forecast calls for inland anomalies of 6–10 °C above normal, several consecutive days above 35 °C, and localized peaks at or above 40 °C in Sevilla, Córdoba and Jaén from midweek.
  • Night-time minima will stay unusually high, widely at or above 20 °C and above 25 °C in parts of Andalusia, with the warm spell likely to persist into Sept. 22–28 with scarce rainfall.
  • Heat contrasts sharply with cooler Atlantic-facing areas: northern cities near 24–25 °C, and Galicia’s local forecasts for Sept. 16 showed mostly cloudy, dry conditions with highs around 23–26 °C.
  • For Córdoba (Argentina) on Sept. 17, the SMN projects 17–23 °C, isolated storms in the afternoon and night with 40–70% precipitation probability, and north wind gusts of 42–50 km/h.
  • In Santa Fe on Sept. 17, isolated nighttime storms carry a 40–70% chance with a forecast range of 15–28 °C and no alerts in force, while Salta is expected to warm toward roughly 35 °C Friday and Saturday.
