Overview

• The blaze broke out around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Crabby Amy’s Clam and Oyster Bar at Treasure Island Marina and the building was fully involved when crews arrived.
• At least six unoccupied boats burned or were badly damaged, and some drifted from their berths before being retrieved.
• More than 100 firefighters, including marine units from Wantagh and neighboring departments, responded under mutual aid as agencies reported differing containment times.
• A fuel spill from the damaged vessels prompted a U.S. Coast Guard response and raised immediate cleanup and navigational safety concerns.
• Town building inspectors, the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office and the county Arson/Bomb Squad examined the site as Hurricane Erin’s winds and roadway flooding complicated operations.
