Overview
- Negotiators reached an emergency agreement on Friday, October 16, that would place Compromís, Podem, ERPV and Esquerra Unida del País Valencià (EUPV) on one Valencian progressive list for the November 29 general election.
- EUPV’s Consell Polític Nacional initially rejected Compromís’s offer by more than 75% late Thursday but later the party’s direction approved a revised proposal with 66% support in an urgent meeting on Friday morning.
- Compromís’s original offer reportedly included concrete concessions such as the third slot on the Valencia list and the Senate lead in Castellón while limiting EUPV’s initials on the ballot, a dispute that fuelled EUPV’s accusations of attempted absorption.
- The pact still depends on internal ratifications by party memberships and on formal registration with the Junta Electoral before the 23:59 deadline on Friday, October 16, which is why specific list positions matter for small parties’ chances of winning seats.
- If the agreement collapses EUPV could run under the Frente Amplio label or align with former Sumar partners, and the outcome will shape which progressive voices press for housing, public services and ecological transition in the Valencian parliamentary group.
