Las Vegas High School Students Face Murder Charges Over Classmate's Death
Four of the accused, aged 16 and 17, have appeared in adult court, while the younger students await separate hearings.
- Eight students from Rancho High School in Las Vegas, aged between 13 and 17, are facing murder charges in connection with the death of their classmate, 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis, who was beaten to death in a brawl over a pair of wireless headphones and a vape pen.
- Four of the accused students, aged 16 and 17, have made their first appearances in adult court, as Nevada law automatically transfers teenagers of this age who are accused of murder out of the juvenile court system.
- The other four students, who are under the age of 16, are awaiting separate hearings to determine if they will be charged as adults.
- The brutal attack, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, took place in an alley near the school after classes on November 1.
- Police are still working to identify and locate two more students seen in the footage who are also expected to face murder charges.
