Las Provincias Opens 160th Anniversary Exhibit Tracing Valencia’s Transformation

City leaders used the opening to back a renewed Metropolitan Plan Sur, turning the anniversary show into a platform for present civic priorities.

Overview

  • The exhibition, titled “La Transformación de Valencia 1866–2026,” opened at the Centre del Carme’s Sala Dormitori and offers free admission through February 22, 2026.
  • Curated by Pablo Salazar and Beatriz de Zúñiga, the show spans 30 stations that merge commissioned illustrations, expert texts and archival pages and photographs with QR-linked content.
  • The inauguration featured President Juanfran Pérez Llorca, Mayor María José Catalá, board chair Gonzalo Zarranz, director Jesús Trelis and Consorci de Museos director-gerent Nicolás Bugeda.
  • Catalá and Pérez Llorca pledged to press for a new Plan Sur Metropolitano in coordination with the newspaper, citing post-dana infrastructure needs.
  • A commissioned piece by painter Luis Lonjedo pays tribute to 2024 flood volunteers based on a Jesús Signes image, while the route culminates with the 2025 opening of Roig Arena.
