Overview
- Hawkins, who has played Officer Kevin Atwater since Season 1, is no longer listed as a series regular after the show’s Season 14 opening episodes.
- Showrunners framed the exit around Atwater prioritizing family and exploring non‑patrol career options rather than as a permanent, irreversible departure.
- The creative team intentionally staged an upbeat, organic farewell so the character’s leave feels like his own decision and not a forced plot turn.
- Season 14 Episode 2 was directed by Jesse Lee Soffer, an original cast member who returned behind the camera for the sendoff.
- The change marks a major cast shift for the One Chicago franchise and leaves fans with the possibility of Hawkins returning in a future episode or crossover.
