Large Fire Engulfs Bartolini Depot in Milan

Damage estimated at about 8,000 square meters has triggered on-site air-quality testing and a city advisory to keep windows closed.

Overview

  • The fire broke out Wednesday evening at the Bartolini logistics depot on via Don Giovanni Minzoni in the Bovisa neighborhood and quickly involved one of the two central warehouse buildings.
  • Five teams from the Milan provincial Vigili del fuoco led initial firefighting efforts and received support from units called in from nearby Monza as crews worked to contain multiple hotspots.
  • Flames spread into the vehicle parking and loading areas so parked trucks and vans caught fire and several explosions were reported while the adjacent office building remained unburned.
  • A dense column of black smoke was visible for kilometers, the Comune of Milan urged nearby residents to stay indoors with windows closed, and ARPA Lombardia dispatched teams to perform meteorological checks and air-sampling.
  • No injuries have been officially reported so far, the cause remains under investigation, and authorities are carrying out damage assessments that could affect local parcel operations and neighborhood air quality in the coming days.
