Overview
- A blaze near Mansbach burned a grain field roughly 300 by 30 metres and spread about 50 metres into adjacent forest before about 120 firefighters from Hesse and Thuringia brought it largely under control with a direct attack and a ploughed firebreak; night-time mop-up continued with tanker shuttles of water.
- A separate field fire between Bornich and Reichenberg in the Rhein-Lahn district burned about 7,000 square metres and was declared extinguished in the evening after crews fought flames made harder to control by strong winds.
- Two people were treated for suspected smoke inhalation and taken to hospital after the Rhein-Lahn fire, and a police helicopter provided aerial support during that response.
- Firefighting resources deployed included water-transport trains, a specialized firefighting unit, a drone team, local forest authorities and the regional water supplier, and several farmers aided suppression with tractors and water trailers.
- Officials have not determined causes for either fire and warn that recent dry weather and gusty winds raise the risk of further field and forest fires, increasing the need for patrols and rapid water logistics across the region.
