LaQuan Smith Closes NYFW With Car-Lined, Star-Packed SS26 Runway

The designer returned to the NYFW schedule after skipping last season to double down on bold womenswear through theatrical staging.

Overview

  • Smith capped the CFDA calendar on Sept. 16 at Pier 76’s Classic Car Club, converting the venue into a runway framed by vintage and high-end cars.
  • The front row included Wendy Williams, Ice-T and Coco Austin, Ice Spice, Busta Rhymes, Latto, Mariah the Scientist and Lil’ Kim, with additional guests such as Jordyn Woods and members of the Combs family.
  • Ty Dolla $ign confirmed he created the show’s music, and styling was led by Patti Wilson.
  • The 30-look collection explored tans, turquoise, oranges and earthy browns across chiffon, organza, faux suede and leather-effect textiles, featuring Indian hand embroidery and intricate beading.
  • Smith described the SS26 woman as commanding and dangerous with a Lara Croft aura, saying he is doubling down on standout pieces for women who want to be seen.
