LAPD Tracks Reported Stolen Ford Fusion From Westside Onto 405 and Into San Fernando Valley

Air support followed the car after officers briefly pulled back for safety as the pursuit continued through heavy traffic.

Overview

  • Police said the chase began on streets west of downtown, moving through Mid-Wilshire, Koreatown and Westlake before heading toward West Los Angeles.
  • The driver entered the northbound 405 Freeway around 3 p.m., weaving in the carpool lane and using the shoulder and emergency lane to pass traffic.
  • After exiting the freeway, the vehicle traveled on surface streets in Van Nuys and other San Fernando Valley areas during the developing pursuit.
  • At one point, ground units disengaged while a helicopter maintained visual contact, before a patrol car resumed pursuit on Olympic Boulevard.
  • Two occupants briefly stepped out of the car near downtown Los Angeles and then got back in and drove off, as speeds reached about 60 mph and risk to nearby motorists increased.
