Overview

• Dashcam and bodycamera clips show officers responding around 9 a.m. to reports of a man waving a large blade at Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard before a brief vehicle pursuit.
• The man, identified in reports as Gurpreet Singh, is seen in the footage brandishing a two-foot blade, appearing to perform gatka, and at one point bringing the blade to his tongue.
• Video shows Singh driving off with the weapon out the window, colliding with a patrol vehicle, then exiting and charging at officers after repeated commands to drop the blade.
• Officers Michael Orozco and Nestor Espinoza Bojorquez fired during the confrontation; Singh was transported to a hospital and later died.
• Police say the machete was recovered and booked into evidence, no officers or bystanders were injured, and the shooting remains under investigation.
