LAPD Raid Recovers $500,000 in Alleged Stolen Nike Goods at CoolKicks Warehouse as Founder Is Arrested

Police tie the haul to stolen train cargo, with more arrests expected.

Overview

  • Detectives executed a search warrant on Oct. 2 at a Santa Monica warehouse on the 1700 block of Stewart Street linked to CoolKicks, detaining three others during the operation.
  • Officers say they recovered more than 2,100 pairs of unreleased Nike shoes and 150 cartons of apparel valued at roughly $500,000.
  • CoolKicks co-founder Adeel Shams, 34, was booked on a felony charge of receiving stolen property, released on his own recognizance, and is due in court on Oct. 23.
  • LAPD’s Cargo Theft Unit worked with Union Pacific Railroad Police, Los Angeles Port Police, Los Angeles World Airports Police, and the county district attorney’s office in the ongoing probe.
  • Shams was live-streaming a WhatNot sale when the raid began, and CoolKicks says it unknowingly bought a small allotment within 48 hours and notes police made no counterfeit allegations.
