LAPD Opens Homicide Probe After Teen Found in D4vd’s Impounded Tesla Is Identified

The medical examiner confirmed the victim’s identity while further forensic testing continues.

Overview

  • The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the remains as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was reported missing from Lake Elsinore in April 2024.
  • Tow-yard workers found the severely decomposed body on Sept. 8 in the front trunk of an impounded Tesla Model Y registered to musician David Anthony Burke, known as D4vd, after it was towed from the Hollywood Hills.
  • The LAPD is treating the case as a homicide, the cause of death is deferred, and no arrests or suspects have been announced.
  • A spokesperson says D4vd is cooperating with investigators; his Wednesday Seattle show was canceled, and his San Francisco performance at The Warfield on Friday, Sept. 19, remains listed as scheduled.
  • Crocs and Hollister removed campaign content featuring the artist, and reporting indicates the Tesla was seen in multiple locations and sat for weeks before it was towed.
