Overview

- Police encountered an adult son on top of his father holding what appeared to be a knife, and an officer fired when he ignored commands and continued stabbing.
- The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced both the son and the father dead at the scene.
- Investigators recovered a pair of scissors used in the assault and also logged a kitchen knife as evidence.
- LAPD says relatives reported a history of violence and prior mental-health confinement for the son, no officers or other community members were injured, and Robbery Homicide and the Force Investigation Division are leading the probes with an LAPD mobile command post deployed and OIG staff dispatched.
