Overview

• Officers responded around 5:20 p.m. to Parthenia Street near the 405 Freeway after multiple calls reported a man with a gun and an assault with a deadly weapon.
• When officers contacted the individual, an officer-involved shooting occurred and the man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
• Capt. Mike Bland said no officers or community members were injured during the encounter.
• Police and KTLA reported that video showed the man swinging a handgun while holding a bottle, and an LAPD airship guided ground units to the location.
• Detectives collected a handgun at the scene and continue to investigate the sequence of events, including whether the man fired; his identity has not been released.
